Obituary For Ambrose Chester Potrzebowski

Ambrose Chester Potrzebowski, 82, of Jordan Twp., Northumberland County died November 17, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after a short illness.

He was born on August 23, 1942, in Blossburg, PA, the only child of the late Anna (Augustine) and Chester Potrzebowski. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Wren Potrzebowski, children Alina Potrzebowski of Albuquerque NM and Alek Potrzebowski of Alexandria VA, and grandchild Rhys England.

Mr. Potrzebowski grew up in Arnot, Tioga County and graduated from North Penn High School, Blossburg. He received his bachelor’s degree from Mansfield State College, where he was president of the Class of 1964.

After college, Ambrose served in the Peace Corps in Kenya for two years. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a master’s degree in public health. In his 20’s, he traveled extensively in Africa, Mexico, Central and South America.

Mr. Potrzebowski worked his entire career in public health assisting in the establishment of several community health centers and identifying health professional shortage areas for underserved rural areas of central Pennsylvania. For several years he managed the state’s migrant health program. Prior to his retirement from the PA Department of Health in 2008, he worked with small critical access hospitals to help them continue inpatient care in rural communities.

An avid outdoorsman, Ambrose hunted and fished all his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of his orchard, and cutting firewood on the farm. Instead of watching television, he read extensively, both fiction and non-fiction. A true Luddite, he refused to own a cell phone.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Ambrose’s memory may be made to the Dauphin County Library System www.dcls.org, your local public library, or to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, www.centralpafoodbank.org

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821. www.visneski.com.
