Obituary For Barbara Marie Oshetski
Barbara Marie Oshetski, age 85, passed away November 15, 2025. Her final days were spent sharing loving moments with her children and grandchildren.
She was born on March 7, 1940, the daughter of the late John W. (Jan) and Mary E. Krakowski Oshetski.
Barbara graduated from Danville Senior High in 1957, and her first job was at Woolworths, then Royal Swan Foods and payroll at Danville State Hospital. She moved to Connecticut and worked at Avco and Perkin-Elmer Corporation.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she was employed by the Montour County Courthouse and Pinebrook Homes. She then spent 23 years in social service/medical records at Danville State Hospital. She had the privilege of working with wonderful people there, making many friends with both staff and patients. She retired in 2002 and enjoyed using Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family. Barbara moved to Ashburn, VA in 2010 to be closer to her young grandchildren.
She became a member of Saint Theresa Catholic Church and enjoyed attending Mass and church events with her daughter and grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters Lorine Auten, Orangeville, PA and Valerie Hamilton, Ashburn, Virginia; son James Shimp and wife Kim & son Kollin Henrie, Danville, PA. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Sirena, Merinda, Lorelei and Drake Hamilton. They loved their Grandy and spent many hours with her watching educational and classic DVDs and learning to cook Polish dishes in her kitchen. Lots of fun memories were created walking around Pavilion Lake and hiking at Claude Moore Park.
In her spare time, Barbara created several quilts, learned to crochet, knit and embroider crewel work. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, computer research, crypto quips, mystery novels, TCM and the Sci-Fi channel. Many pleasant hours were spent in her perennial flower garden. She loved using fresh herbs in her cooking and will be remembered for a variety of delicious soups and the savory aromas that filled her kitchen.
A private graveside service was held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Danville Pa with immediate family. In accordance with her wishes to ensure privacy and a quiet interment, the family respectfully requested that this announcement serve as notification of her passing.
