Obituary For Carol E. Wintersteen

Carol E. Wintersteen, 80, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, November 21, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1945, in Bloomsburg, PA, the daughter of the late Carl P. and Bessie Belle (Beyer) Shutt.

Carol graduated from Danville High School.

She was married to her devoted husband, Douglas S. Wintersteen, for 63 years.

They were married on December 29, 1961.

Carol was employed as a Medical Analysist for Geisinger Medical Center for 33 years retiring in 2013.

She was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church, Danville and Washington “Washies” Fire Company, Danville.

Carol was an avid reader leaving her enriched and thoughtful in her journey through life. She found solace in knitting; she brought delight to family and friends through her baking, often filling her home with the comforting aromas of her kitchen. Her love for flower gardening was evident, as she nurtured her blooms. Additionally, Carol found peace in watching the birds, often drawing inspiration from nature’s wonders during her cherished country rides with her husband, Douglas.

However, Carol’s greatest joy stemmed from the time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She took pride in every moment she shared, imparting wisdom, love, and laughter that will forever echo in their hearts. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile and contagious laugh.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter; Beth Ann Harvey and her husband David of Danville, PA and their three children whom she adored; Brett Taylor, Chelsea Reichner and her husband Matt and Staff Sergeant Ian Taylor and his wife Kathleen as well as one son, Douglas “Scottie” Wintersteen, Jr. of Berwick, PA. Carol is also survived by one sister: Merry Hackenberg of Danville as well as two nephews, Michael Hackenberg and Philip Hackenberg and his wife Ashley.

At Carol’s request there will be no services.
