Obituary For Carol L. Cotner

Carol L Gable Cotner, 78, of Danville, PA, was welcomed into Glory on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Emmanuel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danville. She was born on August 28, 1948, in Danville, PA, the daughter of the late James H. and Mary E (Fogle) Gable.

She graduated from Danville Area High School in 1966.

She was married to her devoted husband of 48 years and partner in ministry, Paul J. Cotner, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2018. They were married on September 5, 1970.

A talented hairdresser, she opened the Carol Cotner Beauty Salon in 1983, where she always expressed love and kindness into every conversation and moment she had with her clients for 31 years. She retired in 2014.

Carol loved to travel and enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Her expression and love for music were displayed in so many ways at First Baptist Church of Danville, where she was a member. Along with her husband Paul, they birthed the “Bells of Joy” Handbell Choir delighting many during the holidays and for worship services. She also enjoyed teaching handbells to young children of the Homeschool Co-Op. She resonated as the church organist for 50 years, moving many to tears with her engaging emotion playing the hymns she cherished and loved.

She is survived by one niece, Lori McCaffery of Smyrna, TN and two nephews: James McCaffery of Smyrna, TN and Lawrence McCaffery of Danville, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her loving sister, Grace McCaffery who passed away May 14, 2017.

Carol has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Carol’s Life to be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive, (off 642 East) Danville, PA with her pastor, the Reverend Dawes J. Dunham officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA.
