Obituary For Dennis G. Mertz

Dennis G. Mertz, 72, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1953, in Danville, PA, the son of the late Eugene and Dorothy (Wertman) Mertz.

Dennis graduated from Danville High School in 1971.

He has been happily married for 45 years to Beth Mertz (Gerringer).

Dennis retired in May 2020 after 31 years of dedicated service as a correctional officer at the Montour County Jail.

Dennis was a member of several local organizations including VFW, Danville American Legion Post 40, the Danville Moose and Washies Fire Company.

Dennis was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed watching college football, going to local dirt tracks for sprint and late model racing, spending time on his front porch with multiple cups of coffee and weekend trips to the casino. He especially enjoyed his dogs Tyson, Keno and Jackson. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, sarcasm and stories. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Dennis Mertz II and wife Andrea, Scott Mertz and wife Colbie, daughter Kristi Mertz and his 4 grandchildren Landon, Malakai,

Hailey, and Meadow. Dennis is also survived by five sisters and one brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Jack Mertz, Robert Mertz and mother-in-law Helen Gerringer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a walk-through visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, PA. Burial will be private at Washingtonville Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to Danville VFW Post 298, 615 Mill Street, Danville, PA 17821.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821.
