Obituary For Donald E. Walker
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Donald Earl Walker passed to his heavenly home with his loving wife, Sandra Sue (Featherman) Walker of 53 years at his side. He was born in Danville on October 22, 1937, to Harry Toland Walker and Leona Agnes (Boone) Walker.
As a young boy, Don spent many hours at play on the Washies playground. Don, who was a Boy Scout, achieved the Order of Arrow honor. As a teenager, he spent many hours at Sunnybrook pool serving as a lifeguard.
He served in the US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
In his early life, Don worked at Merck Cherokee Plant and TRW Danville. He started his career at the Danville State Hospital as a psych aide and continued to pursue advancements until he retired in 1996 as the Institutional Safety Manager.
Don was consistently involved in other activities throughout his life. He became a 32nd degree Mason through the Danville-Mahoning Masonic Lodge #224. In 1956, Don joined the Danville Fire Company as a volunteer fire fighter, later becoming a driver. He joined the Rescue Fire Company and became Chief which lead to being the Mahoning Township Chief. He also studied and became a Deputy Sheriff in Montour County under Sheriff Fred Shepperson. He enjoyed working at the courthouse and the Jail. He also joined the Attorney Generals Drug task force.
In 2002, Don and his wife relocated outside of New Bloomfield where there was enough land to keep their horses at home. He joined the Shermansdale and New Bloomfield fire companies as a firefighter. After several years, he started taking pictures. This new hobby led to new cameras and a new nickname - Flash. Don researched all aspects of picture taking. He took thousands of pictures of accident scenes, fire scenes and fire personnel doing their jobs. These pictures were used by the PA State Police, Fire Marshal, local news medias as well as being sent to the companies and members who expressed an interest.
Don and Sandy enjoyed other hobbies together which included fishing, horseback riding and just traveling around. Don also enjoyed finding new restaurants to sample the cuisine. Don’s thirst for knowledge was never ending. He attended schools and certificate programs offered by various universities and organizations.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Donna Walker, FL; a brother Richard Walker (Maryann), Fl; a grandson Kyle Stine (Marissa), ID; a grandson-in-law Gregory Herring, OK; two great granddaughters, Piper Stine and Ayla Herring as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Herring, his sister Elinor (Walker) Frank and brothers Eugene (Sonny) and Paul Walker, and a nephew PJ Walker.
At Don’s request there will be no services.
