Obituary For Donald Lee Gaughenbaugh

Donald Lee Gaughenbaugh, 65, lost his valiant battle with cancer on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. He was born June 30, 1957, in Rochester, PA; the son of the late Sarah Rosenberger and Cyril James “CJ” Gaughenbaugh.

Don graduated from Abington Heights High School, Clark Summit, PA in 1975 and attended Slippery Rock University and University of Scranton and continued Bloomsburg University where he met his future wife and received a business degree in 1980.

Don was married to the love of his life Kathleen (Williams) Gaughenbaugh for 42 years. They were married on June 21, 1980.

His work experience began as an estimator at Kennedy Van Saun. Don progressed to sales, then project manager. He was promoted to vice president and completed his career as President of Metso Minerals. In his final years, he managed the Pittsburgh and Danville offices concurrently, before retiring in 2015. Don traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally to Finland, Brazil, India, China, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and South Africa.

Don was a member of Frosty Valley Country Club and the White House Husky Legends. He was a volunteer driver of the American Cancer Society and on the board of the Frosty Valley Country Club. Don also was a seminar consultant at the Zeigler School of Business at Bloomsburg University where he enjoyed sharing his life experiences with students.

In addition to being a voracious reader, he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crosswords and sudoku. He excelled in various sports, such as football, basketball, baseball, golf, and track and field. His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his wife, family, and friends.

Don was tenacious, quick witted, an exemplary problem solver and “THE” fun friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by one brother; Thomas Gaughenbaugh and his wife Lorraine of Pickerington, Ohio and one sister, Christine of Ellwood City, PA. He is also survived by two nephews, Kevin Gaughenbaugh of PA, and Matthew Gaughenbaugh of Utah and one niece; Alison Gaughenbaugh of NJ. Don is also survived by one brother in-law; Alfred Williams of New York City, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Lawrence “Po” Gaughenbaugh.

A Celebration of Donald’s Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township, PA.
