Obituary For Dr. S. William Snover
Dr. S. William Snover, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 5, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Seth W. and Joyce (Walton) Snover.
Bill was a 1964 graduate of William Tennent High School in Warminster, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1968, and his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1972.
In June 1972, on the first day of the Hurricane Agnes flood, he and his family moved to Danville, Pennsylvania, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in 1975. After completing his residency, he joined his friend and colleague, Dr. Tom Royer, to create the Department of Emergency Medicine at Geisinger. Bill served as a staff physician for over 20 years and eventually became the Director of Emergency Medicine. He concluded his career serving in community medicine at the Geisinger clinics in Milton and Lewisburg.
Dr. Snover was board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Preventive Medicine/Occupational Medicine and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He was a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, a past president of the American Heart Association, and was active in the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Additionally, Bill served as the former Medical Director of the North Central Pennsylvania Regional EHS Council and held faculty appointments at the Milton S. Hershey School of Medicine and Thomas Jefferson University Medical School.
Bill was a dedicated and active member of Pine Street Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as church treasurer, on the church council, as an assisting minister, as a member of the chapel choir and director for the hand bell choir. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Community Singers.
An outgoing individual with a wide circle of friends, Bill was always grateful for their continued love and support over the years. In his retirement years, Bill enjoyed mowing his fields, taking naps in his hammock, and sipping milkshakes with his grandchildren and friends. He loved to tell a good story and could often be heard dispensing humorous words of wisdom.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jeanine Dulaney Snover; his daughter, Dr. Amy Snover and her companion Walt Rupert; his son, David Snover and his partner, Lauren Mattivi; and his brother, Steven W. Snover and his companion, Maxine Hopf. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Eric (Chasity), Alexis, Allison, and Jacob, as well as one great-grandson, Will, and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Scott W. Snover.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for their loving care of Bill.
