Obituary For Elizabeth Macan Brittain

Elizabeth Macan Brittain, 87, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was born August 26, 1935, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Scott and Rigmor Jensen Macan.

She graduated from Perth Amboy High School. She also graduated from Ursinus College with a bachelors in arts degree and from Katharine Gibbs School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Richard C. Brittain in 1996.

They were married August 23, 1958.

Betty was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church in Danville, PA for over 55 years. Her other memberships included the Danville Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Local Quilt Guild and the Geisinger Medical Center Auxiliary Craft Group where she had served as Treasurer.

She vacationed in Ocean City, NJ, for 50 years which she enjoyed immensely. She loved traveling, reading, and quilting.

Betty will be remembered for her artistic abilities, especially with painting, crafts, and decorating. Her greatest enjoyment in her life were her grandchildren whom she adored. She loved doting over them whenever she had the opportunity.

She is survived by one daughter: Robin B. Harder and her husband Kurt of Bloomsburg PA and four grandchildren: Todd T. Harder and his wife Christina of West Chester, PA; Abigail E. Bishop and her husband Spencer of Street, Maryland, and twin granddaughters; Madeline M. and Hannah R. Harder; both of Arlington, VA, as well as one great-grandson, Beau Edward Bishop. She is also survived by one sister, Carol Hague of North Brunswick, NJ. Several nephews and nieces also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Lee Brittain on July 27, 2022, and one sister, Ruth Rhoad.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Betty’s Life to be held on

Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Grove Presbyterian Church 376 Bloom Street Danville, PA with her pastor the Reverend Jason Clapper officiating. Burial will be private.
