Obituaries

Georgine E. Hurnyak, 100, of Northumberland, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, PA. She was born on December 3, 1923, in Lansford, PA, a daughter of the late George and Edna Eames.

Georgine graduated from Coaldale High School in 1941 where she was an honor student.

She was married to her loving husband the late Andrew P. Hurnyak for 66 years. They were married on January 16, 1946.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville, PA.

Georgine was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and mother in-law. She was an awesome cook, dedicated homemaker, and entertainer who loved bingo and Skip-Bo, and even suffered through many Phillies games on TV. Georgine attributed her longevity to being stubborn and her love of chocolate.

She is survived by her son Allen Hurnyak and his wife Laura of Berwick, PA and her daughter, Marna Brosious, and her husband Tim of Northumberland PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Eric Hurnyak and his wife Carol of Long Island, NY; Kim Buckley and her husband Brian of Harrisburg; Mike Robertson and Vanessa of Pittsburgh and Kaitie Sylvan and her husband Jason of Florida. Georgine is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Alexa, Vivienne, Samuel, Hannah, Rachel, and another great grandchild due any day.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will also be private at St. John’s Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Summit Hill, (Carbon County), PA.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive, Danville, PA 17821.
