Obituary For Gerald Max Von Blohn, Jr.

Gerald Max Von Blohn, Jr., 89, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. He was born on March 27, 1935, in Danville, PA; the son of the late Gerald Max, Sr. and Beatrice R. (Shade) Von Blohn.

Max graduated from Danville Area High School in 1952.

He served his country with honor in the United States Army Pennsylvania National Guard as Sergeant from November of 1954 to April of 1965.

Max was married to the late Dorothy C. (Raup) Von Blohn for 70 years. They were married on August 16, 1952.

He was a member of Danville American Legion Post 40, Danville Moose where he was a past governor twice, former Danville Borough 2nd ward Councilman, and on the Danville Sewer and Water Authority Board, Washington Fire & Hose Company #2 (Washies), Old Guard at TRW, Continental Fire Company, United Auto Workers, Catawissa Boat Club, and Danville Shuffleboard League.

An avid NASCAR fan, Max found thrill and excitement in watching the races. His enthusiasm for racing was matched only by his deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He spent hours fishing and camping. He tended to his garden with love and care, creating a haven of beauty that reflected his vibrant spirit. However, Max’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family and his furry canine companion, JJ. He cherished every moment with his children and grandchildren, serving as a steadfast source of love and wisdom. His laughter and stories will be deeply missed, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of all who knew him.

Max is survived by four children; Gerry Von Blohn, III of Elysburg, PA; Jeff Von Blohn (Julie) of Danville; Tom Von Blohn (Deb) of Danville; and Sue Chrysler of Danville, PA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, six step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Max is also survived by two brothers; David Von Blohn and his wife of Texas and Dean Von Blohn and his wife of Danville as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents; he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Von Blohn, one daughter in law, Charlene Von Blohn and one son in law, Scott Chrysler as well as three sisters; Ruth Raup, Esther Hettinger, and Lois Gabriel and one brother, Tom Kline.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Max’s Life to be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, PA with Reverend Michael Jarret officiating. Friends will be received from 4:00PM to 5:45PM. Burial will be private at Columbia Hill Cemetery, Danville, PA.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Church of Christ, 1381 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821 or Washington Fire and Hose Company #2, 400 Railroad Street, Danville, PA 17821.
