Obituary For H. Maxine Roup

H. Maxine Roup, 93, of Danville PA passed away peacefully Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Emmanuel Nursing Center in Danville PA. She was born August 13, 1929, in West Milton PA, the daughter of the late Calvin and Margaret Prowant Mathias.

She graduated from Milton High School in 1947 and then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Geisinger School of Nursing in Danville PA in 1950.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul Andrew Roup whom she married December 30, 1951.

She was employed as an R.N. for 30 years for Geisinger Medical Center Danville from where she retired in 1991 as a Clinic Nursing Coordinator.

Maxine was a longtime member of the former St. John's United Church of Christ, Mausdale PA where she served as an elder in the church, which is currently the Iron Mill Church. Her other memberships included Geisinger Nursing Alumnae Association and the Montour Delong Fair Association.

Maxine enjoyed traveling with her husband, where they visited every state except Alaska. She loved collecting Santa Clauses, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, reading, watching the Hallmark Channel and above all, spending treasured time with her family, all of whom she adored.

She is survived by one son, Gordon Roup and his wife Terry of Danville PA and two daughters; Karen Ketchem of Indianapolis IN and Cinde Roup and her husband Marty Cabelly of Bloomsburg PA. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Nicole Judge and her husband Timothy of Williamsport PA and Ian Roup and his wife Michal Kunsman Roup of West Alexander PA and five great grandchildren; Amanda Brooks and her husband Willie and Gabrielle Derr; all of Indianapolis IN , Wyatt and Lily Judge of Williamsport PA and Daphne Roup of West Alexander PA. Also surviving is one sister Gloria Biichle and her husband Harold of Williamsport PA and three sisters-in-law: Helen Mathias of Watsontown PA, Sandra Mathias of York PA and Betty Mathias of Watsontown PA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her best friends: Charles and Mary Eck and Dorothy Dunkleberger; all of Danville PA. She was preceded in death by a twin daughter, Kathy Roup in 1952, one granddaughter, Sarah Aeppli in 2020 and one son-in-law Daniel Ketchem in 2020. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Dale Mathias in 2016, Harry Mathias in 2020 and Charles Mathias in September 2021.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Township Fire Company 31 Indian Run Road Danville PA 17821.
