Obituary For Henry A. Swank, Sr.

Henry Albert Swank, Sr., 92, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1933, in Danville, PA, the son of the late George and Mary (Shutt) Swank.

Henry graduated from Danville Area High School, Danville, PA.

He served his country with honor in the United States Army.

He was married to the late, Shirley Ann (Roush) Swank. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 24, 2025.

Henry was employed as a mail truck driver and went on to drive a coal truck then a school bus and was also a man of many talents at TRW.

He was a member of the Danville American Legion Post #40 and the Honor Guard. Henry was a founding father of the Robert K. Vogt VFW Post 298, Danville. He was also a member and firefighter of the East End Fire Company, a member of the Continental Fire Company, Friendship Fire Company and the Washies Fire Company, Danville Moose, the Union County Sportsmen’s Club and the Catawissa Boat Club.

He cherished spending time at the Legion, swapping war stories and memories with his fellow veterans—a testament to the bonds forged through shared experiences. He also loved spending time at the boat club. Henry was a passionate outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. His adventurous spirit didn't stop there; many afternoons were spent tinkering with lawn mowers and other equipment. As a father, Henry took immense pride in coaching his son's baseball team during his younger years, sparking a love for the game that would last a lifetime. He was not just a coach but a mentor, imparting invaluable life lessons on teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of sportsmanship. Henry’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by one son, Henry A. Swank, Jr. and his wife, Jane of New Columbia, PA and one daughter, Deborah Hoover and her husband Brian of Ruskin, FL as well as seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Justin, Christopher, Michelle, Kaelah, Megan, and Katie. Henry is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Liam, Cruz, Paisley, Evan, Hyde, Noel, Fletcher, and Matilda as well as one sister, Georgina Kline and her husband Doug of Bloomsburg, PA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Berry and one sister Janet Freese.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 1402 Bloom Road, Danville, PA with Charlie Swank officiating.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville American Legion #40, 425 Northumberland Street, Danville, PA 17821.
