Obituary For James F. Richards

James F. Richards, 91, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 16, 1933, in Danville, PA, a son of the late Charles M. and Margaret M. (Dawson) Richards.

Jim graduated from Danville Area High School in 1951.

He was married to the late Mary E. Richards for 66 years and was devoted to her until her passing in November of 2023.

Jim was employed by Merck & Co. for 32 years until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Danville.

Jim enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, history, and the outdoors. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. Jim also loved hosting family picnics and gatherings.

He is survived by two sons, James Richards (Beth) of Concord, NH and Thomas Richards (Louise) of Riverside; as well as two daughters; Margaret Wagner (Stephen) of Riverside and Jeanne Williams (Jeff) of Wattsburg. Jim is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Catherine Cox, Ethel Gilliam, and Ruth Enterline.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 68 Center Street, Danville, with Father Timothy J. Marcoe as celebrant. Friends will be received from 10:00am to 10:45am in St. Hubert’s Chapel at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Danville.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Geisinger Hospice, 74 Schoolhouse Road, Suite 104, Danville, PA 17821.
