Jane Gegenheimer, 87, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at her residence. She was born on April 11, 1939, in Danville, PA, the daughter of the late George A. and Ellen C. (Yeager) Holtzapple.

Jane graduated from Muncy High School in 1957 and went on to the University of Pennsylvania Nursing School graduating in 1960.

Jane's dedication to others was evident throughout her long and fulfilling career as a registered nurse. She touched countless lives in various capacities, including her roles as a staff nurse at the State Correctional Institution in Muncy, a reliable school nurse, and a compassionate provider in the psychiatric unit of Geisinger Medical Center. Her passion for nursing was only matched by her unwavering commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of those around her.

She was a former member of Grace Episcopal of Baldwinsville, New York and St. James Episcopal Church of Muncy, PA. Jane was a dedicated member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, where her unwavering faith and spirit shone through her many roles, including Altar Guild as a Vestry Member where she held roles as Junior Warden, Senior Warden, and Treasurer. Her contributions to the church community profoundly enriched the lives of those around her, creating a legacy of love and fellowship that will continue to inspire.

Jane found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a remarkable green thumb and delighted in her garden, where vibrant flowers reflected her zest for life. A lover of both swimming and animals, Jane shared her home with her two cherished cats, Spartacus and Peter. Jane’s laughter and engaging conversations will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her greatest treasure was the time spent with her family.

She is survived by three sons; Edward T. Gegenheimer (Kathy) of Syracuse, NY, James D. Gegenheimer of Danville, and William T. Gegenheimer of Loveland, CO; two grandchildren, Tom Gegenheimer and Dan Gegenheimer as well as two great grandchildren, Leeanna and Aria. Jane is also survived by her siblings; Tom Holtzapple (Priscilla) of Middletown, PA and Betsy Thompson of Muncy, PA as well as one sister in-law, Connie Holtzapple of Muncy, PA.

In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert J. Holtzapple.

Jane’s family extends their deepest gratitude and many thanks to the exceptional hospice personnel. Your profound love, compassion, and tireless care for Jane brought immense comfort to her and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Jane’s Life to be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:00AM at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, 156 East Market Street, Danville, PA with the Reverend Lisa Work officiating. Burial will follow in the memorial garden of the church. Nursing rites will be accorded by SUN Nursing Honor Guard.
