Obituary For Joyce Arlene Delaney

Joyce Arlene Delaney was born in 1944 in Danville, PA, the youngest child of Hugh and Grace Diehl’s four siblings (William, Dorothy, Louise and Joyce).

She passed away on July 10, 2024, at home at the age of 80 after an extended illness.

Joyce attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School then graduated from St. Cyril Academy in Danville and later from Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

After teaching in New York and Massachusetts, she then returned to Danville where she taught at St. Joseph’s. Following her teaching career, she worked at Geisinger Hospital in Danville in the business office as a Financial Coordinator and in the Dermatology Department as a Financial Advisor.

Up until her passing, she was an untiring volunteer at St. Joseph’s Church. The church community will miss her very dedicated service: it was a service of love freely given and a pleasure for Joyce.

In her leisure time Joyce enjoyed camping with her children Erin and Sean, cooking for her many friends and knitting. Her homemade breads and imaginative crockpot meals will be greatly missed by many.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Erin Walsh and husband Jay of Lewisburg, Pa.; son Sean Delaney of Danville, Pa.; granddaughter Grace Walsh and grandson Mark Walsh of Lewisburg, Pa; two sisters Mary Dorothy Boyer and her husband James of Wernersville, Pa.; Louise Schmidt and her husband Robert of Danville, Pa.; brother William Diehl and wife Dorothy of West Chester, Pa.; nieces Brenda Scolaro and husband Tony of New Castle, NH; Lisa Ault and husband Rick of Melbourne, Fl,; Dyan Berry and husband Scot of Auburn, Me.; grandnephews Timothy and Andrew Scolaro of NH.

In Joyce’s passing the Good Lord will miss a truly dedicated disciple but surely enjoy the good meals.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 68 Center Street, Danville, PA with Father Timothy Marcoe as celebrant. Friends will be received from 1:00pm-1:45pm in St. Hubert's Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Danville.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be sent in Joyce’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821. www.visneski.com.

Erin and Sean I was so sorry to learn of your mother's death when I saw it in The Catholic Witness. She was a wonderful woman and always willing to be of service. She was a Volunteer at Holy Family Convent, accompanying the Sisters to appointments. You will be remembered in my prayers. May she rest in peace. Sister Mary Dorothy

Very saddened to hear of Joyce's passing. Joyce was a true gem; kind, sweet, always had a minute to talk, loved her faith, church and friends. Heartfelt sympathy to her family for her loss. I will miss Joyce but she is now at peace into her eternity. ❤️ Margie Brouse

Joyce was a wonderful lady. Knowing her and her family most of my life (growing up on Spruce Street in Danville and later working with her @Geisinger), she will be missed by many. My condolences to Sean and Erin. Your Mom was a wonderful human being who's spirit lifted everyone around her.
