Obituary For Lewis "Butch" Lee

Lewis “Butch” Lee, of Danville PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born November 23, 1941, in Danville, PA the son of the late Robert E. Lee, Sr. and Thelma Bell Lee.

He graduated from Danville High School in 1960.

Butch is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Linda James Lee whom he married August 10, 1968.

In earlier years, he was employed as an attendant at Danville State Hospital. Butch faithfully served his community in the Danville Police Department as a dedicated police officer for 30 years and as Chief of Police for 10 years, from where he retired. After retirement, he worked alongside his son for Penn Heating and Cooling.

His memberships were numerous, including the Friendship Fire Company, East End Fire Company, a lifetime member of the National Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Danville/Masonic Lodge #224 F & AM since October 12, 1965.

An avid outdoorsman, Butch loved hunting and fishing. A respected and well-loved community leader, he started the Danville Shuffleboard League which has continued for 50 years. Butch also restarted the Danville Fishing Derby in 1976 that his father had run previously. Butch was also involved with the Danville Community Christmas Tree. His heart for charity was huge, even to the point of “kissing a pig” for a particular one.

Butch will be remembered for being a great “event” planner including an annual Chicken Barbeque that his family and friends thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to every year. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching the Dodgers and the Celtics. He was a season ticket holder for 25 years of Penn State Football and traveled to many New Years Day Bowls.

He will be remembered for his strong will, his loyalty and love for his family, being an excellent provider and most importantly, an all-around “Good Guy”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Brodie Lee and Richard Lee and one daughter, Cathy Fry. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Kyrsten, McKenna, Gage, Destiny, Becky, Alexia, Matthew, Richard and Brandon and several great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
