Obituary For Louise L. Pegg

Louise L. Pegg, 95, of Danville, PA passed away peacefully in the presence of family members on Monday, January 13, 2025. She was born January 6, 1930, at the family farm in Mayberry Township, Montour County, PA the daughter of the late Walter S. and Ella Honicker Gabriel.

She graduated from Danville High School in 1948.

Louise was married for over 70 years to the love of her life, John “Jack” Pegg, who preceded her in death on May 25, 2019. They were married February 5, 1949, in the former St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, Bloom St. Danville where she had been a member since birth. When St. Hubert’s closed, Louise became a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Danville, PA for over seventy years.

Louise was employed by the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA for several decades. She retired as an EEG technician with the Neurology Department in 1989. After retirement she worked at H&R Block and the Danville Cable Company.

She was a talented seamstress and blessed many with her excellent cooking and baking skills, including making wedding cakes. Her commitment to service extended to the community through her past memberships and leadership within the Washies and the Goodwill Fire Departments’ auxiliaries. In her earlier years, she served as the President of the PTA at the 4th Ward School, where her nurturing spirit shone brightly as she cooked and served meals to the students. She was also a Cub Scout leader and received visits from her former scouts throughout her life.

Louise will be remembered for her selfless and constant caregiving for others and her ability to make her home a welcoming abode of comfort with smiles. The door to the house was typically unlocked and as people dropped by, they would congregate around the kitchen table as Louise would bring out something to snack on (Goods chips, cut celery/carrots/radishes that she kept in the refrigerator) and catch up or play cards which she was still doing until her passing. When she wasn’t welcoming people into her home, she and Jack could be found regularly on their front porch watching over the neighborhood during the day and drinking a Seven Seven in the evening.

She loved her family dearly and will be missed, beyond measure, as the “go to” person with anyone who had a need. Louise was a person of profound kindness and unwavering devotion to her family and to all who crossed her threshold. Many people called her “mom”. Louise was a class act and a role model to all. Gracious, kind, clever, a subtle jokester with wit and an “ornery” sense of humor is how her extended “family” describes her. She gave everyone 95 years of love and was an example of whom we should all aspire to be.

She is survived by one son, John T. “Jack” Pegg and his wife Colleen of Danville, PA and one daughter, Dr. Carol Kuprevich and her husband John of Kennett Square, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. They lovingly know her as “Nan” and “Aunt Weezie”.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Phillips, of Detroit, MI in 2020. Louise was the last living sibling of ten children in the Gabriel family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 68 Center Street Danville, PA with Father Timothy J. Marcoe as celebrant. Friends will be received in St. Hubert’s Chapel from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Area Community Center 1041 Liberty Street Danville, PA or online at www.danvilleacc.com or to kindly make a meal to bless another family in her name.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc 42 West Mahoning Street Danville PA 17821. www.visneski.com.
