Obituaries

Marie L. Monkiewicz, 88, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 3, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Shamokin, PA, the daughter of the late Edward and Agnes Graboski.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Daniel P. Monkiewicz, a brother, Clement, sister and brother in-law, Theresa and John Dancho and brother in-law Randall (Rozann) Grasley.

Marie graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1952 of Locust Township High School, Numidia, PA. She attended the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing where she was President of the Class of 1976 nurses and received the Nursing Arts and Ethics Award upon graduation. Her nursing experiences took her from Allentown to the Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii; the Bloomsburg Hospital and later to the Geriatric Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Montgomery County near Collegeville, PA, where she lived for 38 years before moving to The Meadows in Danville, PA in 2003.

She is survived by one son; Daniel A. (Connie), of Hagerstown, MD; one daughter; Diane, of Wellsboro, PA; one sister, Rozann Grasley of Benton, PA; two brothers, Edward (Nancy) Graboski of Newlin and Ronald (Patti) Graboski of Northumberland; one granddaughter, Briana (Bart) Swierstok of Sacramento, California and one grandson, Christopher (Stephanie) Monkiewicz of Cape May Courthouse, NJ; one great-granddaughter; Alex Rene and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10:00am in the Chapel at Maria Joseph Manor, 1707 Montour Blvd, Danville, PA with Father Charles Ocul as celebrant. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, PA
