Obituary For Melva Jean Vastine

Melva Jean “Jean” Vastine, 88, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville. She was born on August 19, 1936, in Danville, PA, the cherished daughter of the late Melvin and Dorothy Manning (Black).

Melva graduated from Danville Area High School in 1954. Jean remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life.

She was married to her loving husband, Jon Wilson Vastine, for 41 years. They were married on December 12, 1982.

She was a member of Mahoning Presbyterian Church, where she found inspiration and comfort in the music of its historic organ, a testament to her appreciation for tradition and craftmanship.

Jean was a gifted pianist who found joy and solace in playing her baby grand piano, filling her home with music that brought her peace and happiness. She will be remembered as a woman of grace, warmth and timeless elegance. Jean took great pride in creating a beautiful and welcoming home, surrounding herself with antiques that reflected her love of tradition and artistry.

Her kindness, innate sense of style, and love for life’s simple, profound pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, and a source of light and warmth to her family and friends.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Susan O’Kelly of New York.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The burial was private at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA.

    What an honor and privilege it was to know this wonderful woman. I've often said I believed that Jeanne was a special angel walking among us here on earth. I will never forget her. May she rest in peace.
