Obituary For Paul Richard Farnsworth

Paul Richard Farnsworth, 95, of Elysburg, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at his residence. He was born at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, on July 25, 1929, the son of the late Robert J. and Katherine (Hartline) Farnsworth.

Dick graduated from Danville Area High School in 1947 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in education in 1951 then to accomplish his master’s degree in business administration from Bucknell University in 1958.

He was married to the love of his life, Joyce (Yocum) Farnsworth for 68 years. They were married on July 7, 1956.

Dick’s life journey was filled with dedication to his family and his work. He taught Math in Ralpho Township Schools and taught in Southern Columbia High School. Dick was the founder and previous owner of Farnsworth Camping Center, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the Elysburg Presbyterian Church, Elysburg, President of the Southern Columbia Teacher’s Association, President of the Pennsylvania Recreation Association for two years and a member of the Elysburg Rotary Club.

Dick was an avid hunter and enjoyed his time spent at the cabin. He loved woodworking, card playing, camping and tending to his vegetable gardens. He also loved traveling with his wife to Alaska, Mexico and Wyoming. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.

He will be remembered for his hard work and commitment to excellence that set him apart, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His impact on his family, his profession and those who crossed his path will be felt for years to come.

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by one son; Gary Farnsworth and his wife Janice of Elysburg, PA and one daughter; Karen Wolfkiel of San Diego, California as well as two grandsons, Aaron Farnsworth and his wife Brittany and Jesse Farnsworth of Elysburg, PA and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Farnsworth and one great-grandson, Jack Farnsworth. He was also survived by his devoted caregiver of 8 years, Nikki Berardi.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by one beloved son in law, Mike Wolfkiel and one sister Dorothy Zeiders.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dick’s Life to be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Elysburg Presbyterian Church, 320 West Valley Avenue, Elysburg, PA, with his pastor, the Reverend Ted Justice officiating. Friends will be received from 10:30am until 11:45am. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will provide flowers.
