Obituary For Richard Earl Maloy

Richard Earl Maloy, 73, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 20, 1950, in Panama City, FL, the son of the late Homer Earl and Margie May Wallace Maloy.

Richard graduated from Bay High School in Panama City, FL and later attended Calhoun MEBA Engineering School in Baltimore MD.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Maryanna Mottern Maloy whom he married August 2, 1979.

Richard was employed as a Shipping Engineer with the Merchant Marines making four trips for Vietnam. After he retired, he was employed by Sunbury Generation LP in Shamokin Dam, PA. He was a member of the Danville Mahoning Lodge #224 F & AM and the Norry Gun Club.

Richard enjoyed hunting in earlier years. He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed the hobby of metal detecting. He loved animals and was especially fond of cats. Richard was a voracious reader of ancient history and World Religions. His bookshelves tell his story reflecting his intellectual curiosity

Richard was a very courageous man and will be remembered for his compassion and kindness and his selfless and sacrificial nature extended to all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered as a “port in the storm” especially for his family and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle M. Jones of Reading, PA; two grandchildren; Zachary and Leah Jones and one great-grandson, John E. Jones of Reading, PA; one niece, Stacia Hummel of Marietta, PA and one nephew, Ben Hummel of Wyoming. Also surviving is one sister, Andre’lle. Hummel of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandy L. Sudol in 1990.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Richard’s Life to be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 42 West Mahoning Street Danville, PA with the Reverend Robert Barner officiating. Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon until 12:45 PM when Masonic rites will be accorded. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brandy L. Sudol Scholarship Award c/o Lycoming College Williamsport PA. www.visneski.com
