Obituary For Ruth D. Fox

Ruth Essa Fox, 94, of Northumberland, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 2, 2023, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, PA. She was born on November 11, 1928, in Danville, PA, a daughter of the late Grover and Essa (Lewis) Wintersteen.

Ruth graduated from Danville High School.

She was married to her devoted husband, Thomas Fox, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Alongside her husband, they owned and operated Fox’s Dry Cleaning for several years. She later was employed at Geisinger Medical Center in the housekeeping department from where she retired.

A devoted Christian woman, in her earlier years attended St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Riverside, PA and was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Sunbury, PA.

A very well-rounded person, her interests were diverse. They included traveling, fishing, camping, baking, and crafting homemade quilts and braided rugs. Ruth was well known for her green thumb, especially with house plants and flower gardening. She was an avid sports fan of NASCAR, baseball, softball, football, and basically any sport. Ruth particularly enjoyed watching Penn State Football.

A strong woman with a huge heart and beautiful smile, Ruth will be remembered as a good listener, always offering sound advice and her readiness to be helpful wherever she saw a need. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons; Thomas and Dale Fox and five daughters; Jane Herrold, Carol Yeager, Lois Kovaschetz, Shirley Krohn, and Jeanette Yetter. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Fox, and six brothers, Nevin, Warren, Russell, James, Fred and Doyle Wintersteen and one sister; Arminta Wright.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 968 Renns Road, Sunbury, PA 17801.
