Obituary For Shirley E. Bell

Shirley E. Bell,88, of Danville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. She was born on January 25, 1935, at the home of her parents in Washingtonville, PA; the only daughter of the late Roy and Ethel Hoffman Shultz.

Shirley graduated from Danville Area High School in 1952.

She was married to her high school sweetheart, the late George B. Bell in 1954. He preceded her in death in 2005.

As a child she spent her summers on the farm with her maternal grandparents, Lewis and Stella Hoffman, helping with many of the farm chores. In her junior year of high school, Shirley began working part-time in the medical records department of Geisinger Medical Center. After graduating, she became a full-time employee until 1965, when she left to become a house mother for student nurses at the Danville State Hospital. At the closing of the house unit, she became a Psychiatric Aide working in the geriatrics ward from where she retired in 1992.

She is survived by two beloved grandchildren; Kirstin Cook and her husband John of Savannah, Georgia and George R. Kibbe, III of Hampstead, Maryland as well as one beloved great-granddaughter; Taylor Ann Cook of Savannah, Georgia. Shirley is also survived by two sisters in law; Nancy Sees and her husband Jack and Beverly Witmer as well as one brother-in-law; Richard Bell and his wife Marilyn. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley is also survived by very dear friends; Karen Ketchen, Jim Miller, and Michelle Hunsinger.

In addition to her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by one beloved daughter; Cynthia Ann Kibbe in 2011.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Shirley’s Life to be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:30PM at Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 West Mahoning Street, Danville, PA 17821 with the Reverend Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army; 457 Market Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
