Obituary For Sister Mary Kathleen Moore

Sister Mary Kathleen Moore, RGS., 83, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 6, 2025, at Emmanuel Center Hospice Care Unit, Danville. She was born on August 18, 1941, in El Paso, Texas and named Jerrie Kathryn Moore. Sister Mary Kathleen is the daughter of the late Alvy Francis Moore and Kathryn Irene Wetmore.

She attended Elementary school and High school in El Paso, Texas. Sr. Mary Kathleen left El Paso after completing four years at Austin High School at the age of eighteen. She then traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to join the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. She was received as a candidate for their formation program on June 13, 1959. After completing her formation training, Sr. Mary Kathleen pronounced her first vows on December 17, 1961.

Sr. Mary Kathleen received additional education to prepare her for the life and ministries of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. In 1965, She received a B.A. in English and History from Merillac College in St. Louis, MO in 1969 and an MA from Creighton University, Omaha, NE in Christian Spirituality in 1996.

Sr. Mary Kathleen was generous and flexible in responding to the call to service in a wide range of positions throughout the Central United States, the West Coast, and in her later years on the East Coast. She gave full attention to the Good Shepherd services for ministry to youth from troubled backgrounds; also, in service to Good Shepherd community services: Superior/Local Leader, Formation Director for women interested in the Good Shepherd formation programs; Bookkeeping/Accounting, Local and Province Administration.

In her frequent transfers from one ministry to another, as well in those ministries in which her time was extended for several years, Sr. Kathleen took an enthusiastic interest in the local culture of the city and neighborhood in which she lived. A note she left on a form giving a list of her “Apostolic Services”, Sr. Mary Kathleen said, “served in communities across the country.”

Sr. Mary Kathleen will be remembered for her gentle and calm manner in the midst of ordinary and extraordinary circumstances.

Sr. Mary Kathleen is survived by her sister Marie Moore.

A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at Maria Hall Chapel. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg, PA.

Flowers will be provided.
