Thelma Mae Herman, 93, of Danville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Vintage Knolls, Danville, PA. She was born February 22, 1932, in Danville, PA, the daughter of the late Losson and Anna (Leighow) Mader.

Thelma graduated from Danville Area High School in 1950. She received her diploma in Nursing from Lutheran Nursing School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1953.

Thelma was employed at Geisinger Medical Center as an Assistant Patient Care Manager in the Nursery and as a registered nurse at Geisinger Medical Center from where she retired in 1993.

She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Danville, PA where she was a Trustee for one term.

Thelma enjoyed reading. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies Fan and enjoyed watching all the Phillies’ games.

Thelma will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, and her 30 years of care in the Geisinger Nursery. She loved taking care of all the babies and was well respected by her peers. When asked what she loved about working in the nursery she said, “It’s a special feeling. It’s so amazing, each one is so different…you feel like you have something God made right there.”

She is survived by two sons; Edward Herman and his wife, Peg, and Jeffrey Herman; both of Danville and four daughters; Karen Robbins and her husband Dean; Cindy Cavanaugh; Julie Sees and her husband Steve; and Kim McGaw and her husband Patrick, all living in Danville. Thelma is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Michael, Aaron, Steven, Patrick, Alyson, Caitlin, Sara, Cody, Rachael, Abbey, Anna, Brandon, Eric, and Brett as well as twelve great-grandchildren, Luke, Lillie, Charlotte, Lydia, Nora, Cameron, Colter, Lilly, Lucy, Jaxon, Henry, and Riley. She is also survived by one sister, Barbara Bordner and her husband, Richard, who live in Danville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son in-law: Gene Cavanaugh.

We are deeply grateful to the caregivers at Vintage Knolls for the dignity, comfort, and warmth they gave Thelma each day.
