Obituary For William Matthew Hubicki
William (Bill) Matthew Hubicki, 70, of Danville, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Bill was born on April 1, 1954, in Danville, a son of the late John and Isabel (Kollar) Hubicki.
Bill graduated from Danville Area High School in 1972. After graduating, Bill enrolled in Williamsport Area Community College and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Mechanical Drafting. He then secured a job at Geisinger Medical Center with the Maintenance Department, a position that he held for seven years before enrolling in the Graphic Design program at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Later in life, Bill enrolled and graduated from the McCann School of Business to help improve his computer skills.
Bill’s next adventure led him to enlist in the United States Navy in 1984. He served proudly for four years and was stationed aboard the USS Guadalcanal, (LPH-7), a helicopter carrier stationed in Norfolk, Virginia until he was honorably discharged in 1988. After his discharge from the Navy, Bill moved to Massachusetts where he worked for several years before relocating back to Danville to begin working there.
Bill was an avid fan of the Danville football and basketball programs as well as the Danville High School band and could often be seen at their games and performances cheering for the “Ironmen”. He also loved Penn State football, and as many of us do, rooted for them every time they took the field. Bill was also an ardent photographer who loved to take pictures of nature in all of her glory, covered bridges, and sporting events, as he often did while walking around Danville or visiting places that piqued his interest.
Bill is survived by two brothers, John Hubicki of Cape Coral, Florida, and Michael Hubicki of Northumberland, PA. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews as well a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maryann (Hubicki) Streck and Patricia (Hubicki) Corbin.
Even though Bill lived with many health issues and physical setbacks throughout his life, he always maintained a positive attitude and seldom complained about the hand that was dealt to him. He tried to befriend all those who he met and could strike up a conversation with anyone that he came into contact with. Bill had many caring qualities, loved life, and will be sorely missed.
