Donald R. Hummer, 85, of Danville PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville PA on Thursday, November 9, 2023. He was born November 29, 1937, in Rush Township PA the son of the late Ralph W. and Mae Getty Hummer.

He graduated from Danville High School in 1955. He honorably served his country in the United States Army.

He is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife, Mary Ellen Krum Hummer. Two farm families which resulted in their marriage of 66 years. They were married June 16, 1957.

Don was employed as a supervisor at Merck and Company for numerous years, from where he retired. At that point in his life, he became a quintessential farm tinkerer.

He was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Riverside PA.

His wife and family held a special place in Donald’s heart. He cherished every moment spent surrounded by loved ones, finding joy in their presence and creating lifelong memories together. As a devoted father, he always found ways to nurture, guide, and support his children, who cherished his wise advice and comforting presence. Donald’s simple and humble nature radiated throughout his life. He found solace in the quiet moments. He loved taking a ride in his Gator with his loyal companion, his cherished dog Jake. His overwhelming generosity and genuine kindness will be missed by all who loved him dearly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Denny Hummer and his wife Christie of Danville PA and one daughter, Michelle Hummer of Danville PA.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hummer.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church 428 Sunbury Road Riverside PA 17868.
